Summary

Priority One’s Instep programme connects secondary students in the Bay of Plenty with career and leadership opportunities, helping them explore local industries, vocational training, university pathways, and build valuable soft skills for the future workforce.

Each year, Instep hosts the Canvas Tauranga Careers Expo, an event designed to help students navigate their next steps after school. As part of the expo experience, Instep wanted to provide students with a tangible takeaway — something informative, inspiring, and engaging. The goal was to highlight the wide range of career paths available, while reinforcing an important message: not all journeys follow a straight line.

We designed a fold-out brochure that showcased real-life career journeys across diverse industries — from creative arts and engineering to healthcare, construction, and beyond. These stories illustrated the variety of ways people find their path, showing that success can come through unexpected routes.

The Challenge
Create a resource students would not only take home but actually want to read — something that felt relevant, inspiring, and visually appealing to a younger audience.

The Solution
With no requirement to promote Priority One directly, we had the creative freedom to design without strict branding constraints. We leaned into bold, bright colours and trendy, eye-catching typography to make the piece feel fresh and youth-friendly. The design was approachable and fun, aiming to spark curiosity and confidence about the future.

The result was a takeaway that students connected with — not just another brochure, but something that made the idea of planning for the future feel exciting, not intimidating.
